“Podcasting on the Cheap” presentation by Hugh Brackett. Topics include Microphones, Recording and Assembling a Show without a Mixer, Converting Ordinary Household Items into Podcasting Equipment, and Tips for Improving Your Sound Without Spending Any Money. A general Podcasting Q&A at the end hit on Tagging for iTunes using PodPress and FeedBurner.

We were once again at Dr. Dremo and had use of the video projector for a demo of assembling a show using Audacity. We were limited to composite video, but a little tweaking on the laptop video settings produced a good picture. Hugh answered a question about clipping by recording some audio and zooming in on the waveform to show how the waveform gets cut off. This segued into an impromptu demo of the right way to edit out a portion of audio without producing noise at the edit points.

Recorded on an iRiver with external mic. Many thanks to Will at Cloudy Day Art for recording and editing this. This was processed with The Levelator. The new 1.1 version of The Levelator did an impressive job in the face of an outrageous amount of background noise. This was a weakness of the old Levelator and the GigaVox folks have put a major effort into tweaking the Levalator with all of the problem files folks sent in.
